I have to echo the words of my sister. My brother, sisters, and I have been truly blessed to have parents who were loving and supportive of all our hopes and desires, as long as they didn’t contradict Scriptures or hurt someone (including ourselves).
As Chris states, my dad has a loud voice. Growing up we didn’t have air conditioning (my parent’s still don’t) so the windows were usually open from April to October. If I was in trouble, the whole neighborhood knew about it. More than once I would have a friend comment that they were on the way over to the house to play but heard my dad about a block away and decided to stay clear.
The thing is, if you really had a situation that you thought was serious, he was about the calmest person you’d meet. He would quietly work with you to come to a solution to your problem.
Last night I called my dad to wish him a happy father’s day. He patiently listened to all four kids tell him about what they’ve been doing lately and always had something positive to say. Joshua had a basketball tournament this past weekend and he asked how many points he had scored. Josh told him he had taken a couple shots, but none of them dropped. Knowing that Josh has a great outside shot he simply told him, “Next time you need to take more shots!”
When I got on the phone, he didn’t have a lot to say. You see, it was 10PM his time and it was “time to go to bed. Want to talk to your mother?”
I guess I wanted to put in my $0.02 worth in (even if it is a day late) to show how much I love and appreciate him. His love for us kids is simply a reflection of the great love our heavenly Father has for all. He wasn’t one to talk a lot about faith. He simply lived it and made sure we knew we were loved. Love ya Dad!
