I have to echo the words of my sister. My brother, sisters, and I have been truly blessed to have parents who were loving and supportive of all our hopes and desires, as long as they didn’t contradict Scriptures or hurt someone (including ourselves).

As Chris states, my dad has a loud voice. Growing up we didn’t have air conditioning (my parent’s still don’t) so the windows were usually open from April to October. If I was in trouble, the whole neighborhood knew about it. More than once I would have a friend comment that they were on the way over to the house to play but heard my dad about a block away and decided to stay clear.

The thing is, if you really had a situation that you thought was serious, he was about the calmest person you’d meet. He would quietly work with you to come to a solution to your problem.

Last night I called my dad to wish him a happy father’s day. He patiently listened to all four kids tell him about what they’ve been doing lately and always had something positive to say. Joshua had a basketball tournament this past weekend and he asked how many points he had scored. Josh told him he had taken a couple shots, but none of them dropped. Knowing that Josh has a great outside shot he simply told him, “Next time you need to take more shots!”

When I got on the phone, he didn’t have a lot to say. You see, it was 10PM his time and it was “time to go to bed. Want to talk to your mother?”

I guess I wanted to put in my $0.02 worth in (even if it is a day late) to show how much I love and appreciate him. His love for us kids is simply a reflection of the great love our heavenly Father has for all. He wasn’t one to talk a lot about faith. He simply lived it and made sure we knew we were loved. Love ya Dad!

Thoughts from the Penalty Box: Thank God for Wonderful Dads

Results of Rachel’s Surgery

Thanks to all for your prayers. Rachel made it thorugh her surgery just fine. She now has two 12" rods running from T5 to T12, but her back is now straight. After six months or so she should be able to start getting back to her active self, softball, basketball, track, etc.

She is in the process of working her way back to school. Right now she’s ahead of schedule as far as recovery goes. Still a lot of pain, but we’re weaning her off of the pain meds and onto Tynelol.  Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Rachel’s Surgery

It’s been a busy time lately. My daughter Rachel (13) had her scoliosis repaired on Tuesday. Was a very long day and a very long week.

She’s doing quite well now. The doctors expect her to be able to come home tomorrow, which we’re quite glad to hear. Of course it’s going to be a long recovery process, but it will be nice to have everyone under the same roof.

Basically what they did was put two rods in her back that fuse the T5-T12 bones together. This not only will fix the current curvature, but it will keep the back straight into the future as well. They also “adjusted” several of her ribs. That means they were broken and re-aligned to straighten her shoulder.

Needless to say, she’ll need your prayers. In fact, the whole family will for a while. It’s going to be a rough period of time, at least for the next few weeks.

Time Away with Carolyn

Carolyn and I will be going to the Cardinals game tomorrow. It’s been a bit painful watching them this year (especially the last week), but we were glad to see them win last night.

We had hoped we could see them clinch the division tomorrow night, but that isn’t going to happen. Even if they get a win tonight and tomorrow and Houston loses tomorrow, they’ll still need one more win (or loss by Houston) to clinch. Saturday’s the earliest we’ll see it.

This is the first time we will see the new ballpark live. Actually looking forward to it. If you’re watching on TV, we’ll be down the third base line.
